Adam Van Koeverden

Adam was one of the best Canadian success stories to emerge from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, showing the world that
he was the bright new light in the men’s kayak discipline. Adam won two medals - gold in the K-1 500m and bronze in the K-1 1000m, surpassing all expectations in his first Olympic experience. Adam was rewarded for his achievements by being voted Canada’s flag bearer at the Closing Ceremonies in Athens, and he was named Canada’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2004 (Lou Marsh Award) at the Canadian Sport Awards.

Adam has since established himself as a major force in men’s kayak. He won both gold (K-1 500m) and silver (K-1000m) at the 2007 World Championships and is a 4 time overall champion in both events in World Cup competition since 2004. He is considered a definite medal threat in Beijing, where he has his sights set on podium finishes in both the 500m and 1000m events.

Adam is a driven athlete who aspires to enjoy his sport to the fullest and always race his absolute best. He grew up in Oakville, Ontario where he still resides and trains out of the Burloak Canoe Club. In 2007 he completed his Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology
