Corey Hamilton

Corey Hamilton is Mr. Versatility on the Canadian paddling team.
A former member of the Canadian national whitewater paddling squad, Hamilton is now making strides in the sprint as one of the country’s top kayakers.

At the world championships he will compete in the K-1 (kayak singles) 5,000-metre race which will be an official event for the
first time. Hamilton is excited about racing the event. He says it is unpredictable and with a mass start, collisions between boats are not uncommon. In fact, in his first distance race, he was hit by another boat after a good start and tipped.

Hamilton started paddling at age nine. He lived near the Rideau Canoe Club and attended camps for kids. However at 11, he switched for a few years to whitewater slalom in which he enjoyed enormous success. He was a national junior champion at 18, competed at World Cup with Canada’s national team and made
the 2001 world championship team.

However he started to train as well in sprint paddling and was actually doing both for a certain period. In 2005, he made the national sprint team and decided to focus solely on sprint. Hamilton graduated this year with a Bachelor of science in humans kinetics at the University of Ottawa.
